Wench: A Novel

Wench - Dolen Perkins-Valdez Heartbreaking and beautiful story of four slave women who are brought to Ohio each summer as mistresses to their male owners. I have been reading books this month by African American authors in honor of Black History Month. Reading many books on the history of African Americans has hit me hard. Of course I know the terrible history of our slave culture. Of course I know about the Civil Rights movement. Reading book after book, though, regarding these historical events has made me realize how far we have still to go. I believe we should be reading and studying races other than our own so that we can begin to really know our differences as well as commonalities.
